trench recordings is a full service boutique music recording studio located in the west end of Toronto near the Bloor West Village and the Junction. trench features 3000 sq‘ of dedicated sound proofed recording space, a large live room for great rocking drums and multiple isolation rooms, all with customizable acoustic treatments to get the sounds you're looking for. At the heart of it all is our rig. This baby has many great projects under her belt and is the workhorse of the studio. The rig is a Pro-Tools 24 Mix7 system with 32 In’s and Out's of Apoggee converters and tonnes of DSP power for all your plug-in needs.

trench decided to invest in and build some DIY Mic Pres from Seventh Circle Audio back in July. ( 2 API type clones, 2 John Hardy type clones, 4 Neve type clones )

trench is out and about for CMW... Also our Studer A80 1/4" tape machine is back from the shop and sounds sweet ! Next up is Ampex ATR 102 machines.

January 5th, 2011 - Happy New Year and more upgrades !


It's been a busy last few months and things don't look like they are going to slow down anytime soon. We've fully recapped and upchipped our ghost mixer and repaired our two upright pianos. Next on the list is our tape machines. Everyone loves tape :) It's gonna be a good year.

July 19th, 2010 - upgrades


trench has upgraded ! we decided to upgrade and improve our audio services for you. upgrades include the purchase of another Apogee AD-8000 converter for a grand total of 32 tracks into pro-tools and out of pro-tools. More Pro-tools mix cards for a total of 7. Re-capping and modifications to our Sound craft ghost mixing board. Avantone speakers and a complete patchbay overhaul. what does it all mean ? bigger sessions and larger mixes done in less time. Awesome !

June 16th - 20th, 2010 - nxne


Continuing a tradition, the fellows at trench got out and about for North By Northeast (www.nxne.com). A couple of trips to the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern, a club tour of the Kensington venues, a stopover at the Six Shooter barbeque and some other assorted frivolity kept everyone well occupied. Looking forward to the next instalment.

June 11th, 2010 - the counterpoint recording


In may, the Indie Idol finalists The Counterpoint came in to record tracks for their forthcoming album. June 13th, 2010 - finals of indie idol at the garrison


Moving from trench to the Garrison on Dundas, the Indie Idol finale was again broadcast live-to-air. After a great night of music that featured all five finalists and a special performance by last year’s winner Donalyn (http://www.myspace.com/donalynmusic), the judges selected Tiny Little Hearts as this season’s winner. We are looking forward to having them come into trench to get down to work on their five song EP. Kevin Pullen was also selected runner-up and will have the chance to come into the studio to do a three song project.

June 6th, 2010 - semi-final indie idol


Continuing our hosting of the Indie Idol semi-finals, trench hosted Kennedy Clark, Kevin Pullen, the Colour Tasters, Christa Golding, the Counterpoint, Tiny Little Hearts and Jamie Reilly. Everyone had a great time and the judges had a difficult time coming up with the finalists and wild card. In the end, Kevin Pullen (http://www.myspace.com/thedunesrock), Kennedy Clarke (http://www.myspace.com/521268116), and Tiny Little Hearts were all selected to compete in the final.

May 30th, 2010 - semi-final indie idol


As part of our work with internet radio station indielove.ca, trench hosted the first semi-final of the Indie Idol contest. Broadcasting live-to-air from the live room, Victor X, Asleep at the Switch, the Unknown Culprits, the First Seed, and Lem ‘n’ Em played a couple of songs. The finalists were piano prodigy Victor X and the mesmerizing Beth Moore (http://www.myspace.com/bethmooremusic).

March 10th - 14th, 2010 - cmw !


The good folks over at indielove.ca hosted a terrific party at the royal york during Canadian music week. Along the way, we also caught some great gigs with the highlight being the grand analog show at the drake on the 13th. Other highlights were green go at the horseshoe and the mountains and the trees at the central. Now we’re looking forward to nxne in june.

Beginning this January, trench will be partnered with indielove.ca to present the second series of Indie Idol. Hosted by Jeremy Panda with a round table of industry veterans, unsigned Canadian musicians will compete for a five song recording session at trench.
